"Show The Patient How the Final Restoration Will Look"
"Esthetic Wax-Ups" are done so the dentist can show the patient how the final restoration(s) will look before any real work has to be done on the patient. The dentist sends the lab a pre-op/study model that is duplicate in a hard white stone by the lab. This keeps the originals intact.
The "Wax-ups" are done on these duplicate casts. By using different shades of wax to make the teeth as natural as possible--such as darker shades for the cervical and a blue translucent shade for the incisal--completing the look with a pink wax on the gum area. Pala-seal (a clear unfilled liquid resin) is then light cured to the wax to give it more translucency and gloss.
If the Dentist asks for a specific shade from a guide we can also do this. With this actual "Esthetic Wax-Up" model in hand the dentist can now show the patient the original "before" model and the wax-up, demonstrating vividly the changes and improvements. This is most effective on the patient who has irregular teeth with spaces and how they can be closed and how mis-aligned teeth can be corrected.
